Moving in 3 days and counting…

I am moving out of Indiana in 3 days. Really 2, due to the fact that I leave Saturday morning. A life changing event is about to take place and I am still in shock. It will be bittersweet for me and yet the excitement is great. I have a plan.

This week my rat tail will come to an end and that will be another bittersweet moment for me.

Feminism I have realized is a true passion of mine. I am the person I am because of this factor.

I will not be writing for a few days more than usual because of the move. Post comments!

Driving helps me feel better…

I have been traveling a lot lately. Not traveling to different countries or anything to that extent but I have been driving a whole lot back and forth from Chicago to my location of residence and to places among Indiana. The driving gives me time alone to think and just be myself in the car. It makes me feel better about a lot of things that are spinning through my head right now.

Something today that sticks out, that I might go for a drive about, is the fact that everyone is a damn critic. People other than yourself, who think they know you, love to make comments. Maybe it is the way it is said that gets me all crazed.

Today I also noticed how paper is wasted all the time. Every time I use the bathroom, I have to use paper to “wipe” away the waste, which then creates more waste. People just throw out paper that could be recycled, i.e. junk mail. Most of all, around the Purdue Campus where you can never find a fucking recycling container, there are always papers on the floors. The Exponent today put a mini-movie poster of a new movie coming to theatres. When people grab the newspaper all the lost papers fall out and are all over the campus. Hmm, maybe that is the point of having them in there, so that someone like me look at the paper. All I know is that this is particularly pestering me at the moment.

What more ranting can I do? The fact that every time I turn on the radio I hear sexism everywhere and people do not even notice because it is so instilled in our culture. The fact that my rat tail is somehow a “guy hairstyle”.

I believe that somehow this ranting will help as I sit here in the cold and quiet mail room. Maybe I should just go for a drive!

Campus Cuties…

So, I work with someone who I think is definitely in need of a reality check. Now, sometimes you judge people and this time is one of them. At first I was going to give this person the benefit of the doubt. Saying to myself, “It’s just the voice. Let it go.” but after spending the whole summer working side by side with this human, I realized something about the world. Women sometimes are their most sexist enemy.

So, along with this statement I have just made, here is how I have come to this conclusion:

– Coming to work showing off “the rack”.

– Dumbing down for the good of all MAN-kind.

– More ‘like’ and ‘whatever’ or ‘ you know’ in one sentence

– Oh man, the laugh!

– High heels and broken bones

– Calling the person you are dating…”MY guy/woman”

And finally the whole point of this post… (Drum roll please)

Campus Cuties

This link is basically going to take you to a competition between women who are trying to win $1000.00. You get voted and move on to different rounds. Two women in each round go head to head and battle for who is the “hottest”. In other words, it’s based on women being sex objects and getting voted on who is the sexiest in order to win money. It is degrading and the women actually believe this is how it should be in our society.

The fact that it even exist makes me vomit a little. After all that, I ask the question; “Why must we be the biggest enemy to ourselves?”

Date Rape and Harry Potter none which I find fun to joke about…

The following video is brought to you by The Onion news. The video has been bothering me since I heard about it and got to see the footage. Not only do I love Harry Potter and I do not believe making fun of it is any type of funny. The main reason for my dislike in this comedy is the fact that usage of rape as a joke is NOT FUNNY. Though they are trying to insult the news, nothing can be more distasteful than using violence against other human beings as a form of comedy. Rape is no joking matter. To make this matter worse the last joke in this clip is referring to a sex change operation and death. I should not have to explain why this is not appropriate or funny. Though, some might disagree with me or say that I do not have a sense of humor. There are certain situations in life that promote people to find violence against women or humans in general, as a joke.

Please take the time to analyze this yourself and see where you stand on this topic.

(Rape/Date Rape is a violation and violent act on someone’s body and mind.)

Email fowarding can work…

This is an email that was sent over a listserve I belong to at the University. I believe that this is something we should all be aware of and take the time to look at. Women’s health is important and it goes along with the equal rights that are fought for everyday.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME AND DO THIS.

From a nurse:

I’ll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast.
I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.
So there I sat with my patients, giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn’t grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet ‘Thank You they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman’s breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue.
If you know anyone who has had a Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure.
Let’s give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important .. Please take the time and do it really quick!
Please send this to everyone in your address book.
If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times.
If you’re receiving this, it’s because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and send it on to others.
You know who will do the same.

There’s a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require Insurance Companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It’s about eliminating the ‘drive-through mastectomy’ where women are forced to go home just a
few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the Web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number.

Boobs are great…I mean Books*

I think the female body is beautiful, no doubt. The fact that our society as a whole is ok with making it seem like some kind of property really gets me going. I really believe that living in Indiana sometimes makes me mad. I have been looking online at a lot of different states and Oregon is really sticking out to me. I need nature and some life loving people who dont care if I love the female body and not because it is property. I am truely enjoying a book I am reading at the moment called The Rules for Hearts by Sara Ryan. It is an easy read because it is a teen fiction book but it’s a sequel to a book I love called Empress of the World. Check Sara Ryan’s blog out. That is all for now. I am getting really tired and have a headache…and want to finish my book.
